No hay otra forma de decirlo: Lawrence Hayward, o simplemente Lawrence, siempre ha sido raro de cojones, y es elogio.
Puso en marcha a los influyentes Felt llevado de su obsesión por Tom Verlaine y los desarrollos guitarrísticos de Television. Desde The Smiths a Belle & Sebastian, desde Pulp a The Field Mice, todos ellos saborearon el festín del pop de guitarras alternativo de este británico. Obsesivo e hipercontrolador, sólo le siguió de principio a fin el batería Gary Ainge. La época más personal y de mayor esplendor de Felt coincide con la llegada a la banda del teclista Martin Duffy (más tarde en Primal Scream) y su órgano Hammond. Con Forever breathes the Lonely Word (1986) y Me & the Monkey on the Moon (1989) coronaron la cima.
Después de despachar a Felt, puso en marcha Denim y a continuación su actual Go-Kart Mozart, proyectos que jamás han conseguido ensombrecer la obra primera. En estos dos últimos, de tendencia más electro-pop y cacharrera, hay un Lawerence satírico y cáustico, crítico y mordaz hasta el asombro con el mundo que le rodea.
